With an almost untouchable 45 years old artistic carrier, singer, composer, lyricist, playwright, poet, actor, director, storyteller, children’s storyteller, Sérgio Godinho has become an icon capable of gathering around his songs generations of different ages, experiences and aspirations. The insurmountable lot of songs that he has written and recorded since his first record, in 1971, includes some of the major classics of the Portuguese-sang music of the last half century, where every word is measured, thought out, but it’s always the music that comes first. In other words, it’s the music which dictates the lyrics. From the more than 350 songs that he has written over his 43-year career, there seems to be one for every occasion. Love, death, politics, war, friends, drinking, betrayal, everyday life, loneliness, dates, conversations.
